Ever since Jenny McCarthy s son Evan was diagnosed with autism in 2007 she s been the public face of the disorder founding an organization to the cause writing about it in books and stridently slamming vaccines as a potential cause. But in a new interview with Time magazine McCarthy is changing her tune. Evan who no longer shows signs of autism may not actually have the disorder after all. And with that in mind the host of The View says she is changing her long held stance on vaccines.

Since autism symptoms rarely go away with age the article suggests Evan has Landau Kleffner syndrome a rare childhood neurological disorder that can also result in speech impairment and in possible long term neurological damage.

But whatever his diagnosis McCarthy insists I ll continue to be the voice of autism.

Even more shocking however is the fact that she is voicing a new opinion about vaccines. For years McCarthy has been very vocal about her controversial belief that MMR vaccines cause autism. But now she says in the article she simply wants them to be better researched not banned outright.

As Radar has reported McCarthy s view on vaccines has interfered with her career in the past.
