Wimbledon ( Wimbledon) July 4 2013While Marion Bartoli made reaching the Wimbledon final look easy Sabine Lisicki had a much more difficult time though she achieved the same result.
It ended up being the longest match in terms of games at this year's Wimbledon but Lisicki the No. 23 seed eventually dispatched fourth seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland 6 4 2 6 9 7 and earned a berth in Saturday's final with Bartoli.
Unbelievable. The last few games were so exciting Lisicki said afterwards. We were fighting. Agnieska played so well. I made it.
Radwanska dropped the first set but roared back to easily win the second and grabbed a 3 0 lead in the final set. Lisicki roared back though eventually knotting the score at three games apiece. The two traded games from there until Lisicki finally broke Radwanska and held serve to close out the match.
Lisicki had already made noise in this year's championship by beating top seed Serena Williams. Now the German will play in the first Grand Slam final of her career.
I thought 'OK. You've done it against Serena you can do it again ' Lisicki said. I haven't really thought about the final . I'll enjoy today and refocus tomorrow.
