The Humble Bundle has become a gaming tradition where publishers sell their games for cheap and lots and lots of money goes to charity. Fans get games publishers rack up sales and charities get money everybody wins.
Over time it s become more and more well known games that have appeared in the bundles and now we ve gone full corporate with EA concocting their own Humble Origin Bundle which has many of their top titles on sale for practically nothing.
The pay what you want bundle includes Dead Space Dead Space 3 Burnout Paradise The Ultimate Box Crysis 2 Maximum Edition Mirror s Edge and Medal of Honor. Pay more than the average (currently $4.74) and you also get The Sims 3 and Battlefield 3.
That s a hell of a package.
There are complaints however that EA is using this as a way to promote forced use of their Origin client. Three of the biggest games on the list The Sims 3 Battlefield 3 and Dead Space 3 are only available on Origin and would require players to install the client instead of picking up the other titles on Steam. The idea is presumably once you get Origin on people s computers give them good games for cheap and don t drop the ball maybe they ll actually get used to the service.
But even though this certainly isn t a DRM free bundle it s hard to complain too much about it. This is an insanely good deal for all of these games and if the only catch is Origin then that s really not so bad. Also it should be kept in mind that a lot of money is going to EA s five charities the Human Rights Campaign Watsi the San Francisco AIDS Foundation the American Red Cross or the American Cancer Society. So far 745 000 bundles have been sold with 13 days left to take advantage of the offer. Payments have totaled over $3.5M so far.
