It was a big night in several communities across Michigan Detroit and Jackson both have new mayors marijuana was decriminalized in three cities and several bond proposals passed for schools.

Here are five interesting outcomes from different elections across Michigan

Detroit mayor Mike Duggan will become the next mayor of Detroit with 55 percent of the vote beating Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon who got 45 percent. Duggan will take office in January but will likely have little authority since a state appointed emergency manager will be in office until November 2014.

It's noteworthy any time an incumbent mayor is beat. And last night in Jackson Mayor Martin Griffin lost to Jason Smith by 12 points. Griffin said that the council voted to suspend leaf pickup for the year may have hurt his re election.

Marijuana decriminalization Three communities passed ordiances to decriminalize marijuana in their communities. Ferndale Jackson and Lansing

An attempt to consolidate two West Michigan lakeshore communities was defeated. Voters in Saugatuck and Douglas voted to not consolidate their cities. 63 percent of voters in Douglas voted to turn down the option in Saugatuck 58 percent of voters were against consolidation.

Traverse City Mayor gets reelected The day before the election he pleads guilty to a lesser charge of drunken driving and on election day dash cam footage was released of the arrest. But on Election Day Incumbent Mayor Michael Estes won with about 57 percent of the vote.
