Prince George s Christening Royal Baby Baptized In Beautiful Ceremony

Three month old Prince George was christened by The Archbishop of Canterbury the Most Reverend Justin Welby. The Archbishop baptized him with water from the River Jordan by anointing him with the shape of the cross on his forehead. The water was held in the historical Lily Font.

The Lily Font is a silver baptismal font which was commissioned by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1840 for the birth of their first child Victoria Princess Royal. It was first used at The Princess Royal s Christening in 1841 and has been used at every Royal christening since then according to an official press release from Kensington Palace.

George s christening gown was the hand made replica of the Royal Christening Robe made by Angela Kelly Dressmaker to The Queen. The Duchess of Cambridge looked stunning in an ivory peplum top and skirt made by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen the same designer that made her wedding dress. She matched her outfit by topping off her outfit with a Jane Taylor fascinator.

Prince George Baptism Details

The Archbishop knew how sacred the ceremony really was especially for a high profile figure like Prince George. He said in a video released right before the ceremony

As a nation we are celebrating the birth of someone who will in due course be the head of State. That s extraordinary. All through Christian history for 2 000 years being baptized meant to join the family of the church and that s what it means today.

Prince George will be the head of State of numerous countries around the world he will visit more countries than most of us will ever do and in all of them there will be those who like him have been baptized. I will mark Prince George with the sign of the cross on his forehead and that s exactly what every priest does at every single baptism. That is the sign by which we understand that this person belongs to God.
