Its not the kind of anniversary anyones happy about celebrating 19 years ago Friday Kurt Cobain shot and killed himself.
The Nirvana singer songwriter and guitarist plus all around leader was 27.
In the time since hes been called all sorts of things gifted songwriter troubled genius voice of his generation that kind of thing. How well any still fits or ever did are debatable but what is not is how well his songs have held up. Cobain wasnt the first to implement the whisper to a scream technique in his songs (the Pixies one of his favorite bands had been doing that kind of thing for a while as had other bands). But Cobain did it awfully well.
With that in mind here are five songs that may not be the best Nirvana made (though who knows they might be) but are the ones that I can go back to again and again and speak to whatever version of Cobain I have in my head most strongly.
