OREM When Matt and Bonnie Parks realized there was no Ben Jerry's ice cream shop in Utah for them to enjoy this year's Free Cone Day they knew they had to do something. After considering driving to Boise or Las Vegas to get their free scoops the Parks opted instead to purchase more than 100 pints of the ice cream and give away cones on their own.
We haven't had an unhappy customer yet Matt Parks said as he busily scooped ice cream for the queue of people lined up from his kitchen counter out to the garage. Cherry Garcia Phish Food Half Baked and 25 other flavors were available for the excited patrons whom Parks encouraged to get back in line for more.
We love the tradition of Free Cone Day so much that it would have been sad to miss said Bonnie Parks who spent the day running back and forth between the kitchen and the large freezer in the garage fetching more pints as the scoopers ran out.
After Matt Parks promoted their event on Facebook somebody at Ben Jerry's found out and sent several cartons of ice cream and a handful of T shirts via overnight shipping. Parks said his love affair with the Vermont based ice cream company goes back to his first experience with their Peanut Butter Cup variety.
It was full on peanut butter cups Parks said surprised that the ice cream had such large pieces of candy a hallmark of the brand. They're also the densest ice cream you can buy he added.
Tori Salmon said she saw the advertisement for Ben Jerry's Free Cone Day online and then discovered there was no nearby shop.
I was super bummed out Salmon said until she foUnd out about the event at the Parks' home. This is so cool that they did this. This was super nice.
