During what many are calling one of the crazier NBA Drafts in recent memory the Knicks simply looked for the best name available when they drafted Tim Hardaway Jr. according to president Glen Grunwald.

But experts across the board agree that selecting the guard was the right move even though Hardaway may not display the kind of upside other prospects have.

The pick earned the Knicks a B minus from our national desk's draft grades Tim Jr. actually made a great case for himself as a first round pick with a stellar showing at the combine. Combined with a solid season at Michigan Hardaway figures to replace free agent to be J.R. Smith in the Big Apple.

Here's what other outlets say about New York's selection

NJ.com Alex Raskin wrote that with potential depth issues stemming from the possible departures of J.R. Smith Chris Copeland and Pablo Prigioni Hardaway is a good start when thinking about replacing one or some of those names.

New York Times Nate Taylor focused on how Hardaway could fit into Mike Woodson's style and the Knicks' blueprint Carmelo Anthony is the nucleus and should be surrounded by shooters who can work from the outside.

Daily News Frank Isola wrote about Hardaway's father who competed against the Knicks in the 1990s as a member of the rival Miami Heat He has a different body type than his famous father Tim was shaped like a bowling ball while the son is long and lean. They both however have the same competitive fire.

ESPNNewYork Ian Begley pointed out the Knicks didn't take a point guard or a big man but Hardaway's workout with New York really helped along with his ability to hit shots from the wing and off the dribble. They passed up on prospects like Reggie Bullock Isiah Canaan and Tony Mitchell.

Wall Street Journal Chris Herring described Hardaway as physically gifted yet somewhat streaky. He also said Hardaway never showed vast improvement during his time at Michigan. But he's a good fit for the roster.

SI.com Rob Mahoney pointed to Hardaway's struggles off the dribble but he has plenty to like including his scoring ability. The expectation should be that he's a rotation player but not much more than that.

ESPN Insider (subscription only) Chad Ford said there isn't a lot of upside to Hardaway but because he's ready to contribute immediately it's a good pick for the Knicks.
