New mom Kim Kardashian threw a tantrum Friday after learning that Katie Couric trash talked her in an interview despite sending baby gifts for daughter North West.
The ugly spat erupted after Couric 56 said she s at a loss to explain the Kardashian family s fame.
I think it s mostly teenage girls that are interested Couric said in an In Touch interview that hit stands Wednesday.

The casual comment set the cranky Kardashian off.
She uploaded a picture to her Instagram account of baby clothes and a sugary note from Couric that arrived after the reality star gave birth to her first child.
The normally placid Kardashian showed some teeth by snarking that Couric shouldn t talk s if she s going to pretend to be nice.

Her hashtag harangue went on from there.

Couric hastily backpedaled Friday as Kardashian lashed out.
I ve met Kim before and I think she's a really sweet person. I was responding to a reporter s question and explaining how I m intrigued by the public s fascination with her family the veteran newswoman said in a statement.
I didn t mean to hurt her feelings. The gift is genuine and I m happy for Kim and Kanye (West) Couric added.

According to the pictures uploaded by Kardashian Couric sent the new mom a cream colored jacket adorned with light brown trim and tiny polka dots.
But the newswoman clearly didn t take the time to read her own note which was missing words in places and truncated the baby s name reducing it to just no instead of North.
The childish exchange came just two days after Kardashian finally stepped out in public with her infant daughter called Nori for short.
She (well the nanny) toted the 8 week old girl while Kardashian with a pricey diaper bag and Kanye kept a doctor s appointment in Los Angeles.
Also Friday the Los Angeles County district attorney decided not to file a felony case against West over an altercation with a photographer at LAX airport last month.
