COMMENTARY UFC 163 was a decent fight card with Jose Aldo successfully defending his featherweight title for the fifth time while Phil Mr. Wonderful Davis enjoyed a controversial decision against Lyoto Machida.
Here are the results of the UFC 163 fight card held on Aug. 3 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro Brazil
Jose Aldo def. Chan Sung Jung
Aldo displayed his well rounded skills at UFC 163 mixing things up against the Korean Zombie. Jose landed the sharper harder strikes during their encounter and he was pretty successful with his takedowns.
Jung displayed a lot of heart throughout the encounter and he had his moments as well. However he dislocated his shoulder during the fourth round and Aldo jumped all over him bombarding the injured shoulder with hard strikes forcing referee Herb Dean to step in and save the Korean two minutes into round four.
Phil Davis def. Lyoto Machida
Machida was a bit more aggressive than usual at UFC 163 landing some decent shots on Davis during the first round. However Davis managed to put Machida on his back late in the round working in some decent ground n pound.
Davis stayed aggressive during the second round surprisingly holding his own in the striking department with The Dragon. He completed his second takedown of the night at the end of the round evening things up on my scorecard.
Machida turned things up a notch during the final round out striking Davis while effortlessly stuffing takedowns. Unfortunately for Machida the Octagon side judges bungled this one with all three scoring the bout 29 28 in favor of Mr. Wonderful.
I personally scored the fight 29 28 Machida.
Cezar Ferreira def. Thiago Santos
Ferreira came out swinging at UFC 163 hurting Santos early with a left hook. The Ultimate Fighter Brazil middleweight tournament winner jumped all over his staggered foe sinking in a guillotine choke rolling into guard. The tap came 47 seconds into the first round.
Thales Leites def. Tom Watson
Leites dominated a majority of the first round establishing himself as the superior grappler early in the bout threatening with a few submissions. Watson managed to do some damage when he finally got back to his feet but he wasn't able to stop Leites from grinding him down in the latter rounds.
All three judges scored the bout 30 27 in favor of Leites.
John Lineker def. Jos Maria
Maria got off to a good start at UFC 163 hurting Lineker a few times during the first round. Jos continued to push the pace during the second round but he hurt himself while throwing a low kick subsequently dropping to the canvas. Lineker capitalized on the opportunity bombarding Maria with right hands forcing referee Leon Roberts to step in and save him at 1 03 of round one.
