GENESEE COUNTY MI More than 20 000 people are without power Sunday morning after an ice storm moved across the county overnight.

According to the Consumers Energy outage map 20 164 people in Genesee County were without power Sunday Dec. 22 around 5 45 a.m. That number increased by nearly 10 000 customers within an hour.

Consumers Energy Spokesperson Brian Wheeler said at this time there is no estimation when power will be on for those in the dark. He said crews are out working to assess damages caused by the storm and the utility company should have a better idea when power will be restored later Sunday morning.

Ice accumulations around the county are responsible for downed power lines and arcing wires from Clayton Township to Grand Blanc Township according to Genesee County 911.

Wheeler said the number of Consumers Energy customers statewide without power has reached around 82 000.
