The Golden Globes don't give out an award for Most Drugs Consumed in a Motion Picture Comedy but it's okay because Leonardo DiCaprio won for The Wolf of Wall Street anyway.
The actor won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Comedy for playing Jordan Belfort the foul mouthed stock broker at the heart of Martin Scorsese's latest film. It was DiCaprio's tenth nomination but only his second win ever at the Globes. He previously won for his role in another Scorsese movie The Aviator.
DiCaprio has had notoriously bad luck at the big awards show but the victory may bode well for his chances at the Oscars. It would be his first Academy Award after being nominated three times previously.
Heading into the Globes DiCaprio was considered one of the favorites in the category though it was unclear whether he would be able to win over Bruce Dern in Nebraska who has become one of the more inspiring stories of the awards circuit thanks to his long but unappreciated career.
With a win at the Globes under his belt the question for Leo now is whether he can finally snag an Oscar. Though the award tonight certainly makes his odds look a lot better he is going to have some stiff competition from Dern and the Drama contenders namely Chiwetel Ejiofor from 12 Years a Slave and Matthew McConaughey from Dallas Buyers Clubs who won not long after Leo.
We'll find out who will face off in the Best Actor category at the Academy Awards when nominations are announced on Thursday January 16.
